Senator Bond Visits the Chamber
“The Columbia Chamber of Commerce is very pleased that Senator Bond accepted our invitation to meet with us to discuss important issues such as healthcare and job creation,” said Byron Hill, president of ABC Laboratories, Inc. and chair of the Board of Directors for the Chamber. “We were glad to hear his comments about what role the federal government will play in improving the economy here in mid-Missouri.”
“Thank you for the opportunity to speak to you today about issues of importance to the whole nation, to every person here and to every company represented. These are tough times and Washington has a role in today’s economic uncertainty,” said Senator Bond. “We can bring sanity back to Washington and create new jobs, but we need to take the focus off of big government and empower the private sector instead.”
During his visit with Chamber members, Bond gave a presentation entitled “Show-Me the Jobs: Washington’s Role in Today’s Economic Uncertainty.” In his presentation, Bond shared his views on recent government policies, including the federal stimulus and financial rescue plans.
The Senator also spoke on proposed federal legislation currently being debated in Congress, specifically the cap-and-trade and health care reform proposals. Bond answered Chamber members’ questions on how these and other federal policies would impact the economy and their businesses.
The Columbia Chamber of Commerce has invited members of Missouri’s congressional delegation from both sides of the aisle to speak to their members about legislation currently being considered in Congress, including federal health care reform and cap-and-trade legislation. With his appearance today, Bond, Missouri’s senior Senator, became the first member to accept the Chamber’s invitation.
